I have to say after working on The Phantom Project i have a whole appreciation for anyone who works with dialogue. I am used to working with dialogue with live action projects, but with machinima it’s a totally different story. With working with dialogue you have to make sure everything is synced up as best as it can be, and then laying music or ambience over the vocals so your project doesn’t feel like there’s moments of emptiness, or something is missing. And then making sure your background audio isn’t drowning out the vocals. I’ve spent more time adjusting levels more so than actually finalizing cuts.
And shooting is a whole other story, finding the right movements and moods for when the sims are speaking, blocking is another big issue i’ve encountered, and now more so than ever i’m encountering conitinuity issues that i haven’t come across too many times, while working on music videos. I feel like i am in film school all over again.
But at the end of the day I’m really liking it, all. For me this is more of a challenge and I’m happy to tackle it.
the last few weeks, trying to balance appropriate shooting times and editing, and dealing with my real job on a constant basis is hard. But I’m really loving the way everything is coming together in this first episode. I hit a bit of a block in writing my second ep. so i decided to just start shooting and editing the first ep a couple of weeks ago. Hopefully this will spark some creative juices in my brain for the next installment. I just hope i can do it justice and everyone who’s taken a part in this project. Right now i have mixed thoughts about releasing this project when it’s done. I am going to release it but I just feel a little nervous. This is my very first talkie, and its probably not going to be perfect or the best one out there, but I just feel good knowing that i put my all into it, from day one. I don’t know what people are going to say about it, but i am waiting for the “you should stick to music videos comment from a few viewers. “
I guess we’ll see when that time comes.
Later.
