If you’ve gone to the official website for the Sims 2 and looked at the BBS section of the site. You’ve probably noticed a show, to say the least. If you have installed EA’s latest expansion, Bon Voyage you may become privy to a host of problems, such as the severe memory leak, the massive character files folder, error messages, and many more. Although last night, EA realeased it’s first patch for the bloated boo boo that is Bon Voyage. It still did not address a lot of issues that people are experiencing with their game, the major one being the memory leak. If you are curious to see if you may be experiencing said leak, you can see for yourself.
While the game is running simply click the windows button on your PC keyboard.
Once the game is minimized click ALT + Ctrl + delete to bring up your task manager.
In task manager click the tab that says performance. This is where you can see how much memory your computer is running while the game is on.
If your CPU Usage is somewhere between 5o% and 100% and your PF Usage is at 1.37GB, then my friend you have the memory leak. And this explains why your game is moving as slow as elderly person at bingo night. There is speculation that this memory leak may be caused by the attached spyware/copyright protection software called securom oh wait i’m sorry SecuROM! EA intergrated into Bon Voyage so that upon installing the EP, SecuROM! automatically installs itself to one’s computer. SecuROM! cannot be uninstalled and doesn’t uninstall itself when the game it was attached to is uninstalled. If you try to uninstall SecuROM! be warned that if you do not follow the proper tutorials you will end up further damaging your CPU. But this is all speculation, however if you go to the official BBS you will then in fact find an entire section devoted to our new friend SecuROM! So there is in fact a problem, but who is the culprit?
Will this problem ever be fixed? No one knows, because its not like EA wants to acknowledge the fact that their mistakes could cost someone their computer.
To answer the question about the bloated character’s files, this is caused by the game re-creating loads of NPC files while the game is running. This was first remedied by JM Pescado at MoreAwesomethanYou.com. Now EA has supposedly fixed the problem with their shiny new patch. I personally would not install this patch until after, reading about all the issues people may be experiencing with that alone.
Word to the wise if you haven’t purchased or installed Bon Voyage please do not until you read all about the issues and solutions for some of the problems.
